Changes in Respiration and Photorespiration of Silver Birch Seedlings Grown at High CO2 Concentratioation, and it was small even when measured at ambient CO.. No differences in respiration could . detected when measured at growth concentration. Birches grown at high CO. had higher respiration rates than those grown near ambient CO. when measured at ambient CO. concentration.

Long-Term Photosynthetic Acclimation to Elevated Atmospheric CO, in Birch (, Roth.)et al. (1980) photosynthesis model. We show that photosynthesis was stimulated over the fourth growing season in elevated CO.. However, leaf photosynthetic capacity was reduced in elevated CO.. Acclimation to elevated CO.involved a decrease in carboxylation efficiency as well as in RuBP regeneration capacity.

Structural Changes and Physiological Stress Responses of Spruce Trees to SO2, O3 and Elevated Levelscells of forest tree species in the form of an increased or a decreased number of chromosomal defects. The important aspect of this paper was to find out if the occurrence of chromosomal aberrations in the roots coincides with biochemical (antioxidants and pigments) and ultrastructural (chloroplasts) changes in the needles.

Critical Tropospheric Ozone Levels: Preliminary Results of Ozone Fumigation of Trees set at: 0 ppb ozone, 40 ppb, 80 ppb (with AOT40 of 10 ppm.h, the proposed critical level) and 100 ppb (with AOT40 of 15 ppm.h). Preliminary results show negative effects of 80 ppb and 100 ppb ozone treatments on stem biomass, stem diameter, leaf abscission rate as well as visible leaf injury. Effects were most pronounced in poplar.

A Physiological Comparison between Environmental Effects on Canary Pine in Tenerife and Norway Sprucnes at the mediterranean stands. According to needle sulfur contents, SO. impact is moderate at valley levels in Austria, but pronounced at low altitudes in Tenerife. At high altitudes, it is absent in both ecosystems.
