Shear Flow Instability in a Rotating Fluid Layerh increasing strength of the shear. Our experimental results are compared with results from a numerical solution of the quasi-geostrophic equation (the Charney-Obukhov equation) in a geometry corresponding to the experimental situation and with a term modelling the experimental forcing.
