描述This book examines human conflict throughout history, the reasons behind the struggles, and why it persists. The volume delves into the causes of human conflict and what can be done about them. Based on detailed descriptions that support insightful interpretations, the book explores significant historical events in the course of human history. .By pursuing a “web of violence” approach, it raises and answers questions about the sources of conflict and how it may or may not be resolved through investigations into human agency and practice. It evaluates lessons learned concerning human conflict, violence, and warfare. To illustrate these lessons, the book presents a broad geographical and temporal set of data, including research on the time of Neanderthals in Europe (20-30 thousand years ago); the Late Neolithic civilization on the Mediterranean (6-8 thousand years ago); medieval Ireland; contemporary history of the Western Dani peoples of West Papua; and, finally, recent issues in Brazil, Congo, and Kenya..

Conclusions and Commentary, social structures in generating human conflict and resolving it throughout history. Only within such structural contexts can the agency of individual actors be understood. It is instructive to review some of these structures and to reflect on both the substance of the findings presented here as well as the methods we may employ to interpret them.

The Mammoth Steppe in Relation to the Fate of Modern Humans and Neanderthals, ings in the Upper Paleolithic is merely one such example, albeit an unusual one. This research is thus illustrative of the systematic violence that permeates all cultures, an example of what Turpin and Kurtz (1997) have termed the “web of violence.” Why did it take so very long for moderns to domina

Warfare, Alliance Formation, and the Origins of the Irish Mediof Henry Wright and others for the fortunes of these political systems – of ceaseless coalescence and collapse. However, an examination of the Irish ethnohistorical sources pertaining to the province of Munster reveals that their warfare was highly patterned. During the period 600 - 900 AD political

Seeking Justice, Preserving Honor: War and Peace Among the Western Dani, show that a web of violence can exist in a primarily egalitarian culture such as the Western Dani in West Papua, Indonesia, as a social response to individuals who fail to participate in those activities that contribute to the common good of the members of that society.
