描述.This book traces how right-wing newspapers in Britain helped shape British public opinion about the European Union over the course of the 20 years preceding the EU referendum in June 2016. The author argues that newspapers such as the .Telegraph., .Mail., .Sun. and .Express. have been effectively waging a long-term propaganda war, with the distortions and borderline fake news presented one of the factors that helped secure the narrow majority for Brexit. Written by an EU insider, the book presents hard facts and debunks the core myths on EU laws, exorbitant budget contributions and uncontrolled immigration, and contributes to the broader debate on the importance of the press for democracy..

National Identity, the British Media, and Press Propagandaependence. English has increased distrust of Europe as fewer people now learn languages. The chapter looks at how the media landscape of film, television, books, newspapers and social media affects attitudes towards Europe. “Taking Back Control of Our Laws”: I. Democracy was therefore undemocratic and that EU laws covered virtually all aspects of our lives, so that our national sovereignty was gone. This chapter debunks the first of these myths by showing that the “bureaucrats,” the European Commission, only propose drafts of laws and it is the member states’ repre

“Taking Back Control of Our Laws”: II. SovereigntyEU has supreme authority only in a few areas like the single market, authority is shared in many areas, and in areas like social security, education and health the EU has almost no say at all. Power is not inexorably slipping away from the member states to an emerging European “super-state,” because

“Taking Back Control of Our Money”: The Cost of EU Membership’s money that its accounts were never signed off by the auditors. The chapter first explains the EU budget and what the money is spent on. Then it unpicks the £350 million figure painted on the side of Leave’s “Battle Bus” as the amount Britain sent the EU every week and could be spent on the Nation
