Energy Metabolism in Feasting and Fasting, ion without serious consequences. The capability of humans to survive marked extremes in caloric intake depends on the ability (1) to selectively oxidize and excrete certain nitrogenous metabolites, (2) to store carbohydrate and lipid metabolites in an economical form during caloric excess, and (3)

Some Aspects of Energy Coupling by Mitochondria,This paper will review some recent developments and trends of thought on the energetics, mechanism, and dynamics of electron transport and oxidative phosphorylation, as well as some aspects of the interplay between the mitochondrial and cytosolic compartments of cells basic to an understanding of metabolic regulation.

Hormonal Regulation of Lipolysis: Role of Cyclic Nucleotides, Adenosine, and Free Fatty Acids, cids noncovalently bound to plasma albumin. The fatty acids are taken up by muscle, liver, and other tissues where they are either oxidized as a source of energy or reesterified. In addition, free fatty acids (FFA) may also be converted to ketone bodies by liver and, subsequently, oxidized by muscle and the brain as a source of energy.
