Chinaman, Not Hindustani: Stereotypes and Solidarity in a Hong Kong Film on Indiaof India and is criticised by Indian scholars as humiliating and distasteful. By highlighting inter-Asian solidarities, Srinivas shows that the fusion of Hong Kong martial arts with Bollywood music and dance unites the twin paragons of global cinema and permits a new reading of the films as a performative critique of the Orientalising gaze.

Discontents of Modernity: Space, Consumption and Loss in Hong Kong New Wave and Bombay Parallel Cineand Bollywood during the 1970s and 1980s. It focuses on the rising trend of cinematic realism in both cinemas against the backdrop of anxieties brought on by modernization and urbanization. Despite the vast institutional differences between the two cities, the cinematic expressions of popular dissatisfaction were very similar in these films.
