Gigabit Local Area Networksof gigabit Local Area Networks are now emerging. This paper describes work at GTE Laboratories to develop an experimental, Gigabit-per-second, ATM-oriented Local Area Network that will accommodate a wide class of users with different operating requirements. This G-LAN is expected to be compatible with the future ATM/SONET-based B-ISDN.

Gateway Congestion Controls in High-Speed Backbone Networkstion delay on the effectiveness of the proposed policies. The inefficacy of the reactive feedback policy is shown for increased propagation delay. Improvements to the quality of the state information is also discussed in order to use efficiently the reactive control over larger networks.
