,Folkness and Literature: The Chinese Experience in Mo Yan’s Narratives,cularity, values more body experience, and focuses on the narrative rather than lyrical ways in the folk discourse. The Chinese experience in Mo Yan’s novels is not the ‘grotesque realism’ discussed by Bakhtin, but the nature of ‘folklore’ embodied in the cultural context of ‘brutal reality’.
