Giovanni Bignami,Andrea Sommarivae guanylate cyclase as a gas signal transducer, although whether this heme protein serves as an authentic receptor for CO remains unknown. This chapter focuses on recent developments, collected from both experimental and clinical settings, regarding both the physiologic and pathophysiologic roles of CO as a regulator of hepatobiliary functions.
