Neeleman andWeerman take issue with this view, arguing for a more flexibleapproach on the basis of conceptual considerations and data takenmostly, but not exclusively, from the Germanic languages. In-depthanalyses of word order phenomena as well as diachronic and typologicalgeneralizations motivate a re-evaluation of the role of case in theprojection of arguments. Case is shown to provide a syntactic footholdfor thematic interpretation, something which is necessary in a grammarthat does not allow fixed theta-positions. Thus, this study does notonly offer a genuine alternative to many standard assumptions, it alsoexplains why there should be such a thing as case in natural language. | 出版日期 | Book 1999 | 关键词 | Affix; German; Index; Nominativ; Scrambling; Syntax; complements; diachron; grammar; language; nouns; object; pr | 版次 | 1 | doi | https://doi.org/10.1007/978-94-011-4289-2 | isbn_softcover | 978-0-7923-7199-1 | isbn_ebook | 978-94-011-4289-2Series ISSN 0924-4670 Series E-ISSN 2215-0358 | issn_series | 0924-4670 | copyright | Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 1999 |
