Three-dimensional photoelasticity: stress distribution around a through thickness crack,ding region of the material. The redistribution of stresses and strains around the crack has been the subject of many past discussions both experimentally and analytically. Much of the work, however, has been limited to two-dimensional stress analyses because of the complexity of three-dimensional elasticity problems.
