Memory-based neural network and its application to a mobile robot with evolutionary and experience network. In our approach, training data are stored in a memory in the form of distributed manner by the use of several random number tables. On-line learning can be realized easily in our approach. This method was applied to a behavior-learning mobile robot. This robot acquires instinctive behavior by evolutionary method.

Efficient flow of control can be combined with programmable hardware, as is illustrated by a field programmable gate array processor built for evaluating functions learned by ALNs.

Promises and challenges of Evolvable hardware,ues in EHW remain open. This paper reviews the current status of EHW, discusses the promises and possible advantages of EHW, and indicates the challenges we must meet in order to develop practical and large-scale EHW.
