描述This volume is based on the Workshop on Evolutionary Computing held in Sheffield, U.K., in April 1995 under the sponsorship of the Society for the Study of Artificial Intelligence and Simulation of Behavior (AISB)..The 18 full papers presented were selected during a post-workshop refereeing meeting and chosen from 32 submissions for the workshop..The papers are organized in sections on evolutionary computing theory and techniques, timetabling, routing and scheduling, optimization, signal processing and control, and genetic programming. The collection of papers has a certain bias towards real world applications of evolutionary computing and particularly genetic algorithms.

Europa 1992 — Chancen und Risiken problem using evolutionary computing methods are first compared. The recombination operators are then presented and various alternatives for incorporating heuristic knowledge in the search are described. Finally, results are presented comparing the operators on a real timetabling problem.

The second approach implements the genetic algorithm in direct control of the station with the identical goal of reducing the moisture content of the pressed pulp. Some combinatorial landscapes on which a Genetic Algorithm outperforms other Stochastic iterative m are set-covering problems, in which the encoding used (hence defining the landscape) possesses a particular form of directed epistasis, Further, by distilling the features of this landscape which we feel are important to this empirical result, we introduce a general class of landscapes which also display this ‘GA advantage’.
