描述In recent years, the study of events and their role as implicit arguments of predicates has been at the center of much important work in semantics and the syntax/semantics interface. This volume brings together fourteen original studies by leading scholars in semantics and the syntax/semantics interface, covering a broad spectrum of research into the role of events in grammar. The papers extensively address the following topics, among others: event arguments and thematic argument structure; the role of events in verbal aspectual distinctions; events and the distinction between stage and individual level predicates; the role of events in the analysis of plurality and scope relations, the mass/count distinction, and propositional attitudes.

Transformatoren (T) (Umspanner),tic theory is one filled with varying conceptions of what these are, if indeed they exist at all.. They have at times been conceived of as purely syntactic objects (e.g. the ‘theta roles’ of Chomsky, 1981; the “case relations” of Fillmore, 1968), as names for parts of lexical/conceptual structure (e

Others, including Smith (1991), have argued against treating the progressive as a stativizer. I

I begin with a background about the distribution of Pron, and make the initial claim about the connection between Pron and genericity. In section 3 an

,Elektrische Wellen in der Ionosphäre,The fact that we make reference to events in our language is a well established linguistic fact. Nominals have long been recognised as elements which can refer to events. Vendler (1967) discusses the meanings of derived nominals such as the subject in (1), and shows that it is ambiguous.

,Die ersten drahtlosen Übertragungsversuche,The behavior of tenses in future contexts is quite peculiar. When a present tense is under the scope of a future auxiliary (.), the temporal location for events constrained by that tense is shifted forward. Although . in (1) has present tense, the anticipated meeting events follow the utterance time.
