Long-Term Advances in the State of the Art of Travel Forecasting Methods, For unknown reasons, the network equilibrium problem with variable demand presented in the book was ignored by the transportation planners of that day. Moreover, the first author seemed to be unaware that this same problem was being considered by those pioneering studies (Martin Beckmann, personal interview, July 9, 1996).
