Non-ferrous Metals,Of all the metallic elements, only a comparatively small number are used in quantity as the basis for engineering materials, although many others are used as alloying elements for specific purposes. The metals used in large amounts are aluminium, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium and zinc.

Hardness and Tensile Testing,The hardness of metals can be defined as resistance to plastic deformation and test methods are based on forcing an indenter into the surface under a known load. Two such tests are the Brinell test and Vickers diamond test. In each case the hardness number is given by indenting force divided by the surface area of indentation.
