Alexithymia and Subjective Well-Being,-being are negatively correlated with alexithymia including close meaningful social relationships, good physical health, and extraversion. Additionally, factors that are negatively correlated with positive well-being are positively correlated with alexithymia including neuroticism, external locus of control, and personality disorders.

Andreas Loos,Rainer Sinn,Günter M. Zieglerociations are complex. In general, alexithymia is correlated with poor psychological and physical health. Many demographic variables such as age, sex, and socioeconomic status (SES) are not strongly correlated with alexithymia.

Definition of Alexithymia,. The ability to process emotions is normally distributed in the population and high scores on measures of alexithymia may represent the lower end of this ability. Overall, research shows that alexithymia is associated with low levels of positive well-being, including low levels of happiness and life satisfaction.

The History of the Construct and Etiology of Alexithymia, etiology of alexithymia including a cognitive-developmental theory of emotional awareness, and more recently a “multiple code theory”. Alexithymia is also thought to develop as the result of a traumatic brain injury.
