描述Electron EM reviews the theoretical and experimental work of the last 30 years on continuous electron emission in energetic ion-atom collisions. High incident energies for which the projectile is faster than the mean orbital velocity of the active electron are considered. Emphasis is placed on the interpretation of ionization mechanisms. They are interpreted in terms of Coulomb centers associated with the projectile and target nuclear fields which strongly interact with the outgoing electron. General properties of the two-center electron emission are analyzed. Particular attention is given to screening effects. A brief overview of multiple ionization processes is also presented. The survey concludes with a complete compilation of experimental studies of ionization cross sections.

Ionization by Bare Projectiles,the attention is focused on the characteristic features of bare heavy ions. Contrary to proton impact, highly charged ions give rise to significant two-center effects on the ejected electrons at nearly all emission angles.

Concluding Remarks, emission as applied to many fields, including the technology of ion production, plasma and fusion research, astronomy, and various branches of solid state physics. It is safe to state that the research about ion-induced electron emission has provided a meritorious service to scientists from other fields of physics.

https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-662-41171-1eraction is known, the understanding of the mechanisms relevant for ion-induced electron emission promises important insight into the many-body problem. Electron emission is very effective in providing detailed information about the structure of atoms and the dynamics of collision mechanisms.
