It is also evident that over a wide range of habitats, factors such as high temperature and water stress may often be correlated; when this happens interpretation of the plant response may be a very complicated problem.

The effects of the water status are overruled by rapid changes in the water vapour pressure deficit during the night. A sudden increase due to föhn-wind stopped or at least markedly diminished CO. uptake and acid accumulation in CAM plants.
