Fire in Forest,evere droughts do occur, albeit infrequently (Schulze and McGee 1978). If, however, a comparison is made between the present occurrence of forest and these bioclimatic zones, it appears that very little of this potential is actually realized (Huntley, this volume, chapter 1).

Concluding Remarks. Fire Research - A Perspective for the Future,umstances of fairly narrow management objectives and of familiarity with a specific ecological system. I believe the preceding chapters will have dispelled the notion that fire as an ecological factor is well understood.
