,The Pole Tide and the Damping of the Earth’s Free Nutation,Since the discovery of the Earth’s free nutation at the end of the last century the problem of its damping has not yet been solved satisfactorily. Tidal friction in the oceans was suspected to be a possible cause, and there has been a long discussion on this topic.
