Transmission Genetics,Inheritance is the transmission of genetic information from parents to offspring. Most of the genetic information is located on the chromosomes. The principles of chromosomal inheritance were first discovered experimentally by Gregor Mendel in 1865 and rediscovered by Correns, von Tschermak and de Vries in 1900.

Cytology and Cytogenetics,Two tissues from the last larval instar (L3) are suited for cytological analysis: (1) The neural or cerebral ganglion (= supraesophageal ganglion) for mitotic chromosomes and (2) the salivary glands for giant chromosomes.
