Soil variation caused by plants: a mechanism of floristic change in grassland?ion. This is surprising, since the importance of vegetation as a factor in soil development has long been recognized (Müller, 1879, 1884; Hilgard, 1906; Glinka, 1914). Indeed, Clements (1916) regarded the effects of vegetation on soil as the main driving force of primary succession, though he was uncertain of its role in secondary succession.

Therapielexikon der Sportmedizinly used cultivated grasslands; this has led to marked changes in their botanical composition. The numerous slow-growing species typical of low fertility sites, are gradually replaced by a few species with rapid growth and a high nutrient demand, so there is a decrease in species diversity.

Many of these grasslands arise as a result of the total destruction of the previous relief, soil, and vegetation, followed by the reconstruction of a new system, which normally differs substantially from the previous one.
