Muhittin Onur Akca,Osman Sonmeze principal goal of this paper is to show the integration of information from the domain of manufacturing (including material selection) and simple analysis techniques in preliminary design. This is effectively accomplished within the framework of the Decision Support Problem Technique by formulating and solving coupled decision support problems.

These procedures can also be applied on structural and component optimization problems as shown in the following. The non-linearity of the optimization problem, time-consuming analytical or numerical structural analyses and the limited validity of the optimization model provide higher demands on the interactive procedure.
