State Machines,andle the control structures, that is, the . and . and ., in an algorithm, we need to consider state machines in addition to datapaths. This chapter introduces . and the next chapter will talk about how we can link a state machine to a datapath to fully implement an algorithm in hardware.

Frank Molzow-Voit,Florian Plönnigse instructions covered in the Encoding Code chapter and proceeded to learn about datapath components such as registers, MUX’s, and decoders. Last chapter discussed datapaths for generic algorithms. Now we can begin to put those components together into a system capable of processing instructions.
