Thermodynamic and Radiative Processes in the Atmosphere, as the presence of inversion layers which act as a “lid” and strongly inhibit vertical motion. Inversion situations are especially important for air quality problems, as poor dispersion and trapping of pollutants beneath the inversion will inevitably lead to poor local and regional air quality.

Atmospheric Boundary-Layer Processes and Influence of Inhomogeneous Terrain,ofiles of these meteorological variables and their fluxes. It will be clear these profiles will depend strongly on the process that determines vertical transport in the boundary layer. This process is turbulence. Therefore, the study of the atmospheric boundary layer is almost synonym with a study of atmospheric turbulence.
