描述This book analyses the shortcomings of the Western development aid programme. Through exploring the evolution of aid over more than seven decades, development is examined as an industry with a variety of motives and actors. The driving forces and dynamics in the relationship between aid and economic development are highlighted in relation to faulty development structures and misaligned aims. With a particular focus on Egypt, radical questions are posed on how global aid and development can be improved, including how it can respond to the COVID-19 pandemic...This book aims to present an alternative aid framework to help overcome the dysfunctionality of the current international development system. It will be of interest to researchers and policymakers working within development economics and development policy..

Time-Efficient Broadcast in Radio NetworksThis brief chapter simply looks at donor responses to Covid19, showing how donors need to appear relevant, no matter what, by quickly generating Covid19-related advice and projects, by creating new fields of expertise, by promoting virtual events, and by talking big and generating hope eternal.

https://doi.org/10.1007/978-1-4614-0797-3This chapter is a politically incorrect overview of governments in the Rest. It looks at what is mostly a depressing picture and how things got this way, including typical weaknesses and failings today. But does the ‘development state’ hold promise at least in some cases? Do donors make a difference in promoting reform?

https://doi.org/10.1007/978-1-4614-0797-3This chapter looks at how donors—with their institutional footprints in the Rest—clog up recipient bureaucracies and confuse practically everyone. Recipients try but fail to manage the flood, even when it comes to donors monopolizing country knowledge. The result is a counterproductive ‘foreign fingers’ complex.

Graphs and Discrete Dirichlet SpacesThis chapter looks at the history and rhetoric around partnerships between donors and recipients. It takes up political and foreign policy preconditions, political negotiations and negotiating capital, uncertainties and unknowns in negotiations, and kicking fraying partnerships down the road during project implementation.
