描述Edited by six leading practitioners and academics in the field of participatory design, with nearly 50 contributors from around the world, this book shows how to design with communities in empowering and effective ways. The flow of the book’s nine chapters reflects the general progression of community design process, while also encouraging readers to search for ways that best serve their distinct needs and the culture and geography of diverse places. Each chapter presents a series of techniques around a theme, from approaching the initial stages of a project, to getting to know a community, to provoking political change through strategic thinking. Readers may approach the book as they would a cookbook, with recipes open to improvisation, adaptation, and being created anew.

Experting: They Know, We Know, and Together We Know Better, Later, ased on secondary information and best practice norms. It is not generated within the community itself. Being aware that valuable knowledge lies with people . the community, and that these people can be great resources for designers, is critical to transactive and transformative design.

Conclusion, ity. We knew we had to find techniques to both reform and re-form the design process, the built environment, and society. We searched for and found reflective, experiential, and procedural means to achieve those reformations within the near future.

https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-031-33414-6hat we focus on. However, as more information is collected, the clarity we may have started with begins to cloud. Yes, a new plaza would be very good for the community, but is it enough to address some of the other issues that people are beginning to discuss?

Threads, Daemons, and Garbage Collectionlp out?” Soon the workforce is doubled, reinforced with participants who might never have attended a planning meeting or a public hearing. Grassroots democracy has expanded its active membership. And many become active in other community projects.

Threads, Daemons, and Garbage Collection evaluations inform the reflective designer, who learns from mistakes and successes, and also the community members, who can initiate changes to correct problems and improve the long-term effectiveness of their project.
