Hajnal Andréka,Miklós Ferenczi,István Németipecific trade-off with a single currency and a single discounting rate. Based on recent models I show that the plurality of trade-offs leaves room for stochasticity and for constraints, which limits the explanatory role of economic concepts such as trade-offs, investment, and resources, with respect to the evolutionary biology of death.

Piston pins and piston pin circlips, gene silencing. In the latter case I expose the research on the so-called longevity genes. Then I interpret the variety of conflicting theories and the lack of a crucial test and a univocal result about these theories; I argue in favor of an explanatory pluralism that obtains at several levels.

Book 2023ions they make, and the way that they open specific new research avenues. The book is divided into two sections: the first considers physiology and the second evolutionary biology. In the first part, Huneman reconstructs a conceptual genealogy of experimental physiology based on an in-depth analysis

Life and Death in Experimental Physiology After Bichats first follower, François Magendie and then Magendie’s famous assistant Claude Bernard. I show how Bichat’s innovations regarding the structure of biological knowledge and the centrality of death are also found in these physiologists achievements, even though they reject Bichat’s vitalism.

A Providentialist Metaphysics and the Traditional Economics of Death: Mortality and Individuality notion of debt. Then I find again this same providentialism when looking at biology (including Darwin) and late nineteenth-century biochemistry, and I show that it’s part of an economic scheme of thought. I indicate how the antagonism between individual and universal (species) is central for philos
