Inherent logical structure of computational data: Its role in storage and retrieval strategies to sively parallel facilities. The question raised is: can this approach which exploits the inherent logical relations of meshed data generated by simulations of fluid flows be applied to scientific data from other domains with different inherent relations?

An extended schema model for scientific data,d as metadata for scientific data analysis than in statistical and commercial databases. Clearly, metadata constitutes an important part of our schema model. As part of the schema model, we provide an operational definition for metadata. This definition enables us to focus on the complex relationship between data and metadata.

The VIS-AD data model: Integrating metadata and polymorphic display with a scientific programming lh which they approximate mathematical objects. We define a similar lattice of displays and study visualization processes as functions from data lattices to display lattices. Such functions can be applied to visualize data objects of all data types and are thus polymorphic.

It proposes mechanisms that need to be incorporated into databases to reduce the systems integration problems involved in integrating visualization applications to databases. Motivating examples have been drawn from the VLSI domain.

A system architecture for data-oriented visualization,rithms and the data. Comparable to the Controller which controls the execution flow storage managers are introduced which control the dataflow between modules which might reside on different computers. An overview of the system architecture will be given and an inspection of the potential of this approach will be performed.
