Using Migration Counts to Monitor Landbird Populations: Review and Evaluation of Current Status,s led to greater interest in methods of monitoring population change in nongame birds. Without monitoring we are unable to document long-term change, to determine whether short-term fluctuation is within a normal range, or to evaluate the effectiveness of management.

Ptilochronology,d to a wide variety of conceptual issues concerning avian behavior and ecology. In this chapter, I review these developments, point out uncertainties about the method that need to be addressed, and suggest additional subjects in ornithology that could benefit from application of the method.
