Ultraphosphates,Ultraphosphates comprise a group of P.O.-rich condensed phosphates that have not yet been fully investigated. In our discussion of the classification and nomenclature of condensed phosphates in Chapter 1, we gave a chemical definition of ultraphosphates and briefly described their geometries.

Oligophosphates, triphosphates (. = 2 and 3) are presently well characterized, but examples with . = 4 and . = 5 are rather rare. This slow development, common to many areas of condensed phosphate chemistry, can probably be attributed to the lack of convenient starting materials for the preparation of these higher oligophosphates.

Long-Chain Polyphosphates, are considered as having terminal OH groups and thus a formula (H.P.O.). Long-chain polyphosphates have been the subject of a great number of physical investigations, mainly devoted to the estimation of their degree of polymerization. From these studies, which we do not report here, one arrives at the following two conclusions:
