What’s a Cellphilm? An Introductionthe present limits of manufacturing technology and design technique. It would be presumptuous to suggest that this single chapter could contain an adequate summary of that experience. Rather, we have attempted a cursory introduction to some of the more important and obvious areas of concern.

ld usually refer to liquid nitrogen as being at very low temperatures. The adverb “very” is generally used for something out of the ordinary, and for those more familiar with cryogenics, the temperature range below 1 K might better fit this category. Such a choice merely reflects the present status

Student A/R/Tographers Creating CellphilmsHeat exchangers are devices which enhance the transfer of heat and are vital components of all cryocoolers. They exist in a wide variety of types, shapes, sizes, and arrangements and are made of all kinds of material. Metals are commonly used because of high thermal conductivity and relative ease of fabrication.

Sean Wiebe,Claire Caseley SmithMuch has been written on the thermodynamic design of cryogenic coolers, and professional papers describing successful cryogenic equipment may be found in a variety of publications, but little has been written concerning the practical problems associated with the selection, design, and operation of a cryocooler.

Cryogenics began in 1877 when L. Kalete observed the transition of oxygen from the gaseous to the liquid state. Small systems for liquefaction of air were developed by Linde and Hampson in 1895, working independently, but the broad development of cryocoolers came much later and especially after World War II.
