Intercollegiate athletics remains a contested terrain where race andracism are critical issues often absent in the public discourse. Recently, theeconomic motives of intercollegiate athletic programs and academicindiscretions have unveiled behaviors that stand to tarnish the images ofinstitutions of higher education and reinforce racial stereotypes about theintellectual inabilities of Black males.
