Book 2004 embraces dynamic rupture and wave propagation, computational environment and algorithms, data assimilation and understanding, and applications of models to earthquakes. This part also contains articles on the computational approaches and challenges of constructing earthquake models..

In other words, it is not always possible to separate strength drop and the slip-weakening distance using rupture modeling, in agreement with the conclusions by GUATTERI and SPUDICH (2000).

We present a primary data set for the San Andreas and Imperial faults for comparison with non-primary data in existing databases, and propose standard formats and structure for paleoseismic data assimilation into numerical simulation models.

Guided Waves from Sources Outside Faults: An Indication for Shallow Fault Zone Structure?ll outside a FZ continuous with depth. The results support, in conjunction with recent observational evidence, a model for natural faults with shallow trapping structures rather than ones that span the entire seismogenic zone. This may have implications for fault mechanics as well as for aspects of shaking hazard near faults.
