描述Design occurs in a rich social context where the effectiveness and efficiency of social interaction and collective performance are key to successful outcomes. Increasingly, design is being explored and developed as a collective, collaborative, participatory, and even community process. The heightened recognition of designing as a social process has stimulated interest in collaborative design..This book contains the proceedings of the international conference "CoDesigning 2000" held in Coventry, England, September 2000. During this meeting exponents from a wide range of design domains came together to present and discuss perspectives on and new knowledge and understanding of collaborative design, and the evidence for enhanced design performance through collaboration..Within this volume different motivations for, conceptions of, and findings about collaborative design are addressed in 50 contributions by different research groups. Structured into 6 sections according to the main fields of interest, it provides a survey of the state of scientifically based knowledge and trends emerging from collaborative design research and their implications for a wide range of domains.

Mind that User’s Mind: Incorporating Cultural Difference to User-centred Design Approachesater than ever. We are also increasingly able to fabricate pictures through the manipulation of visual information. With this surge to a potentially worldwide ‘connectedness’ comes the opportunity, if not responsibility, for the design profession to consider its implications. While it might not be o

Project-related Development of Building Products as a Co-operative Processthe industry results from initiatives taken by a variety of different parties. Manufacturers are not the only ones who initiate the development of building products. Architects too play an important role, more particularly in initiating project-related product development. Since architects operate w

Does ‘inclusive design’ Require an Inclusive Design Process?e is an approach to design that is truly inclusive of user preferences. To set the scene, the meaning of inclusive design is explained. The methods currently used to include user representation within the design process are described, as well as criticisms and deficiencies of these processes (e.g.,

The collaborative workshop formats developed in university settings in particular in Scandinavia, (e.g., Greenbaum and Kyng, 1991), 10–15 years ago are becoming increasingly popular now, but they need further development, both to acco

Working Anywhere: Co-design Through Participationriences of working away from their primary workspaces. The paper will use this project to illustrate the processes of collaboration (between SonicRim, ACCO and end-users), cultivation (of customer intuition) and ideation (through continual empathy with end user experience).
