The Ideal of Public Justification Revisited,me this. But is the key problem stopping us from having a say really one of communication? Is it just because they don’t know what we want that the people running our services and neighbourhoods get things wrong? It seems doubtful.

Tree search methods and heuristics, shining examples of people gaining more say over their lives and services. We have also seen initiatives which seem to .power rather than empower people. If anything demands rigour rather than rhetoric, it’s empowerment. Let’s begin with two examples that more than make the point. First a user group.

But empowerment has special reverberations for services like health and welfare because they intervene intimately in our lives, are meant to help and can restrict our rights.
