Daugherty,Carl Leukefeldprobably the least amount of artefacts, it is very hard to construct three dimensional pictures because of the very small size of the structural elements found in chromosomes. On the other hand, the methods of preparing chromosomes . are all connected with rather crude procedures causing many artefacts.

Raymond P. Daugherty,Carl Leukefeldy are extended into rather thin and long threads in interphase. The best direct evidence for the persistence of the chromosomes comes from observations on polytene chromosomes (as e.g. in the giant cells of salivary glands of Drosophila) during interphase (H. and B., 1933; see e.g. B., 1972; H., 1974).
