The CHA.DS.-VASc calculator predicts annual stroke risk and the HAS-BLED calculator predicts patients’ risk of a major bleeding event while on anticoagulation. Both calculators should be used to determine if a patient should be anticoagulated, and if any patient variables can be modified to reduce the risk of bleeding.
