Regulation of the β-Adrenergic Receptor in the Pineal Gland and Red Cell Membranesends on the prior exposure to catecholamines. Reduced release of noradrenaline causes supersensitivity while increased exposure to catecholamine agonists results in a rapid subsensitivity. Changes in sensitivity is found not only in the β-adrenergic receptor but also in adenylate cyclase, protein kinase and other subcellular events.

The recent isolation and structural characterization of several such messengers by Roger Guillemin and Andrew Schally and their collaborators brought the final proof for this hypothesis. This also meant that the extensive knowledge collected in the field of neurobiology now b

Neuroendocrine Regulation: The Peptidergic Neuron Introduction and Historical BackgroundThe award of the 1977 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine to two neuroendocrinologists for their research on hypothalamic releasing and inhibitory hormones (22) signals an increased appreciation of brain-endocrine interactions and sets the stage for this 42nd Nobel Symposium on “Principles for central neuronal regulation of the endocrine system”.

Studies on Interactions of Epinephrine Neuronal Systems with other Neuronal Systemshe CNS (e.g., neurohormone secretion, temperature regulation, food and water intake, modulation of blood pressure, respiration, regulation of sleep and wakefulness and certain types of behavior). Recent morphological and biochemical data suggests that interactions among different neurotransmitter sy
