描述.Cardiac Cellular Electrophysiology. is intended for theclinical cardiologist who wishes to refresh or deepen hisunderstanding of the cellular basis of cardiac electrophysiology, forresearchers interested in the basis of the electrical activity of theheart, such as clinical investigators, physiologists orpharmacologists, for teachers in physiology, pharmacology and otherbiomedical studies, and for medical students from graduate topostgraduate level. ..Cardiac Cellular Electrophysiology. starts with a primer of basicelectrophysiology, the cardiac action potential and the physiologicalbasis of the electrocardiogram. Our second aim after having introducedthe basic concepts was to continue with giving an overview of theproperties of the most important ionic currents in the heart, and totreat their modulation, in order to deal with the mechanismsunderlying cardiac ischaemia, arrhythmias and remodelling. .Edward Carmeliet and Johan Vereecke, Katholieke University Leuven,Belgium, have collaborated for over 30 years in cardiacelectrophysiology research. Their studies include the genesis of thenormal action potential, its changes in ischaemia, the effect ofdrugs, and the mechanism of arrhyt

Ionic basis of resting and action potential, eparation under study and to determine its parameters. This can be done by studying the response of the cell to an electrical excitation, which most often has the form of a step current, a sinusoidal current, or a voltage step.

Modulation of electrical activity, transient changes when the rate is suddenly increased or decreased, and the restitution process which refers to changes in APD for an extra stimulus applied at a variable interval following attainment of steady-state. Most information available is related to the ventricular action potential.

Acute ischaemia, ates is so elevated that the time limit for exhaustion of the store is less than a minute [390]. When oxygen falls below a critical level the process of H+ ejection in the mitochondrion stops and the energy stored in the proton electrochemical gradient becomes insufficient to synthesize ATP in suffi

A. F. Vakakis,O. V. Gendelman,Y. S. LeeAutomatism, triggered activity and reentry are the main mechanisms for generating arrhythmias. Automatism or triggered activity frequently initiate the arrhythmia and reentry most often is responsible for its perpetuation.
