Field Observations and Measurements of the Physical Properties of Oldoinyo Lengai Alkali Carbonatitd that lava flows erupted on Oldoinyo Lengai are smaller, though morphologically similar to basaltic lavas erupted on Mount Etna and Hawaii. Factors governing flow lengths, morphology and the development of compound flow fields on Oldoinyo Lengai are identical to those on basaltic volcanoes.

An Assessment of the Alleged Role of Evaporites and Saline Brines in the Origin of Natrocarbonatiteclearly magmatic. If natrocarbonatites were either remobilized or dissolved trona deposits, the resulting melt would have to acquire almost all of the chemical features observed in known carbonatites from East Africa.
