Ischaemia (5), osmotic changes (12), arterial hypertension (6), toxic substances (4, 10) and arterial hypoxia (11, 3) have been named as precipitating factors.

Cerebral Metabolic Rates as Determinants of Hypoxic Survival of Adult Micehe maturational stage of the animals (BERLET, in preparation). Furthermore, a striking increase in hypoxic survival times was exhibited by animals pretreated with 6-aminonicotinamide (5). This compound appears to stimulate the glycolytic flux of neural tissue as judged by a steep rise of lactate levels during ischemic anoxia (13).
