Biradical Tetraether Lipids from Thermoacidophilic Archaebacteriaiety of phylogenetic arguments has led some authors to propose archaebacteria as a third primary kingdom of living organisms, the two others being prokaryotes and eukaryotes, and to suggest that archaebacteria may have played a key role in the early history of life (for a review, see Woese, 1981).
