https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-030-05906-4The subject of biomaterials is vast. The bibliography at the end of this chapter shows a large number of lengthy texts, some of which are good summaries of the subject while others go into selected aspects (for example biocompatibility) in great depth.

Considerations in Joint Replacement,Joint replacement in the human may be undertaken for several reasons: pain and its associated loss of function, tumors in the skeletal structure confined to the region of the joint and trauma. Surgery to remove tumors may involve resection of more bony material than is general in joint replacement surgery.
