影响因子Savannas are the most widespread ecosystem in the tropics and as such are subjected to great human pressure that may result in massive soil degradation. .The book addresses the role of species in the function of savanna ecosystems. It is shown that savannas are enormously diverse and that four factors determine the function of savanna ecosystems: Plant Available Moisture; Plant Available Nutrients; Fire; Herbivores.

Kritische Theorie und Kapitalismusve. Biodiversity affects the functioning of savannas through its effect on productivity (Chap. 2, 10), nutrient cycling (Chap. 3, 10), water economy (Chap. 4, 10), soil properties (Chap. 2, 3, 10) and possibly through its effect on long-term ecosystem resilience (Chapters 5, 9, 12).

The Diversity of the Savanna Ecosystemoughout the tropics in all continents but particularly in the Americas, Africa, and Australia. However, this physiognomic definition encompasses a great deal of diversity in both biotic and abiotic characteristics, in floristic composition and in vegetation history. This chapter presents a summary of this diversity.

Diversity of Herbivorous Insects and Ecosystem Processesnto 1984). The major exception, of course, are African ungulate herbivores, whose impact on savanna and grassland ecosystems has received some attention (McNaughton 1976; Sinclair 1983). Plant-eating insects, on the other hand, are hardly mentioned except as pollinators (Cole 1986).

Biodiversity As Regulator of Energy Flow, Water Use and Nutrient Cycling in Savannasosystem, will affect the processes characterizing its functioning in those aspects related to energy and matter flow, to reproduction and perpetuation in time, and to resistance and resilience in the face of disturbances of variable intensities.
