Normal Cellular Protein Synthesis and Heat Shock however, the precise function that these hsps perform in heat-shocked cells is not yet fully understood (for a recent review see Vierling 1991). In heat shock each cell responds to heat shock as a single cell; there is no system-wide, coordinated response.
