Improvement of Bacterial Light-Dependent Hydrogen Production by Altering the Photosynthetic Pigment pe LH1/LH2 ratio by genetic transformation with a plasmid carrying genes encoding LH1 pigment-binding proteins. The hydrogen production of the transformed P3 was also restored to that of the wild type. These results suggest that alteration of the LH1/LH2 ratio can enhance light-dependent hydrogen production.

Reconstitution of an Iron-Only Hydrogenase. Reconstitution was also successful with purified hydrogenase I that was denatured anaerobically. This recovered 3.6% of its original hydrogen evolution activity. These results suggest that accessory proteins are not necessary for assembly of iron-only hydrogenases as they are for nickel-iron hydrogenases.
