Pressure Sores-the Problemstill more difficult to control..We have found that a more fruitful approach to the problem is to concentrate upon the biology and the mechanics of the breakdown of normal surface tissues, and then see if it is very different from the biology and mechanics of the breakdown of denervated tissues.

The Causation and Prevention of Bed Soreshas been called the most dangerous splint yet devised by mankind. Factors which may play a significant part in tissue necrosis are discussed, followed by the logistics of a programme to prevent the development of bed sores. It is suggested that the problem is one of economic feasibility rather than

Pressure on the Patientcases, the prolonged. pressure which occludes vessels is caused by the inability of the patient to feel pain and/or move. Fortunately the surface area of the body available for the support of the patient is such that it is possible to design patient-support systems which will prevent the pressure pe

Pressure Sores-the Problemobvious common factor of denervation or loss of sensation has allowed many workers to assume that loss of nerves is the most significant element in the aetiology of these pressure sores. Hence, the term ‘trophic’ ulcer which suggests that some trophic, or nourishing, element is missing from tissues
