Theoretical topics in solid mechanics are illustrated through many worked examples and exercises chosen to assist the reader in recognising the necessary problem solving techniques. The book is therefore suitable for both single discipline and broad-based courses that include mechanics as applied in engineering and design. The underlying theme is to show how the load carrying capacity of materials and structures used in engineering may be determined.
